Exhibition of Stalin Lists in Rustavi

On 14 February 2013 an exhibition prepared by IDFI (Institute for Development of Freedom of Information) was opened in the Rustavi Historical Museum - 1937-1938 Repressions: "Stalin's Lists" on Georgia

Unique documental and photo materials reflecting the tragic events of 1937-1938 Georgia were presented on the exhibit. The materials were acquired by IDFI in the archives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, its Analytic Department, the "Georgian Memorial" Society and 

the family archives of the repressed.

Only a small part of the materials that reflects the mechanisms of arrest, investigation, torture and death penalty was presented on the exhibition.

In 1937-1938 in Georgia 3615 people were repressed under the direct orders of Stalin and the members of the Political Bureau. First names, family names and penalties of the repressed from Moswoc to Tbilisi.

 

12 lists of this kind exist in Georgia, all sent at different times.

The exhibition opened on 14 February. The exhibit was symbolically dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the 1938 list dated 14 February.

405 people are liosted in the 14 february 1938 list.

The Rustavi Public School students, the descendants of the repressed, members of the Rustavi City Council and other interested people attended the exhibition.

The exhibition in Rustavi will be open until 5 March. Future plans include moving the exhibition to different cities.
